The night came and it was peaceful as the two angels sat on the ledge of a tall clock tower. It was by request of the lovely brunette woman who gazed warmly into the city lights below. Luminous orbs shined almost like the stars pin pointed in the sky.
He watched her with a sort of admiration as she seemed very much at peace while holding herself confidently. The woman didn’t flaunt her beauty or even seem to realize that she charmed instantly the people who laid eyes on her.
Still, this woman, Melody she called herself, had something else about her that he found even more curious than incredible modesty. Melody gave the word ‘angel’ a whole new meaning.
“So… I suppose we ought to talk instead of sitting here all day, hm?” she smiled pleasantly towards him, green eyes sparkled in mere relaxation. Only she knew of her actual identity.
A soft chuckle filled the air, “Ah, but what to talk about? You pretty much have only given your name to me, dear Melody.”
“That I have, and the fact that I admire the view of the stars.” She laughed lightly; airily. Then softly she moved, grasping his hand. Not like you aren’t infamous of course” she chuckled as his eyes showed some surprise by her sudden gesture.
Well, he knew that his stories of the hunters made their round about those groups who tended to be rather important in standing to his group.
“Well it can’t be fair that you know more about me than you.” He was about to say something else before catching a slight blush on the woman’s cheeks as she idly ran her thumb along the back of his hand, “You have been with me all day and only now you are blushing?” mirth erupted as laughter filled the air from his smooth voice.
Looking his way, she managed to push away some of the flush from her cheeks, “Oh don’t act like you’ve never been shy. Honestly, Dust, you would have to have some human moments dealing with them so much.”
His laughter receded, “Ah, I do apologize, Melody. I just found it, ah, cute coming from such a beautiful lady.”
“Do you speak this charmingly to all of the women in your life?” her tongue flicked out teasingly in his direction and she laughed as a faux expression of shock came upon his face.
Then a gasp, “Aw, do you really think that way? Would you rather I was rude and crass?”
“If that would be how your real feelings and attitude were then yes, Dust, I would
rather that. Being the true you would be more honest.” Of course she cringed inside. Oh she was really one to talk right now.
Silence came for a brief moment, “Is that so? Melody, you are very interesting… and beautiful.” He drew their clasped hands towards his lips, moving it about so the back of her hand was face up. Gentle lips pressed against it making her freeze up slightly and he laughed. “Although, my dear, it grows late and while I am enjoying my current time with you and would much enjoy staying until the sun rose. We ought to get home and rest.”
“So we must part.” She murmured as he nodded in reply, “Well perhaps we will meet again.” He continued to hold her hand, breath running along the back of it.
He then stood and drew her up along with him before scooping her up into his arms with a flourish and when she was about to ask why, he smiled warmly at her, “Can’t I be a gentleman and fly the young lady home?”
The two took off of the roof and he glided down into the city, “So will you at least let someone such as myself know where your home is?”
“Ah well… I have errands tonight so you may drop me off near there if you wish.” She motioned towards a small park and with a soft sigh he flew down and soon set her gently on her feet.
“Are you sure you do not want my company tonight? I am sure I have time to escort you.” He asked her softly. Shrouded by the shadows of the trees, he didn’t want to admit it, but he already felt like he had grown quite attached to her.
A soft smile in his direction, “Please get some rest, Dust. I will be fine from here on out. You have plenty on your plate with your hunters.” A moment passed before she took one of his hands in hers and tip toed to his height barely. Then, wrapping her other arm around his neck, used her weight to draw him down.
For a moment, he appeared confused, then startled as she pressed her lips against his. Seconds passed before she released his neck and hand with a serene smile, eyes glassy.
It seemed as if her breath was stolen away and Dust still seemed stunned, “Goodnight Dust, please have sweet dreams. Happy Halloween.” Turning around she skirted off while he murmured a Happy Halloween back.
Finally, finding herself alone, she ducked away into a worn out building and grabbed a large duffle bad. Quickly she changed into a simple black dress with a wide belt, tall boots, and also removed her wig. Her black pointed witch hat pulled onto her head.
Then at last, she removed her contacts from her eyes, revealing pearlescent orbs. Stuffing her white dress in the bad along with her shoes and wig, she peered at the discarded wings on the floor.
Not that she didn’t like them, but she didn’t want anyone knowing that “Melody” was her. Sighing she picked up the wings and tucked them under her arm before stepping out into the night time streets.
Thoughts swarmed and buzzed about her head. Oh how red she was, blushing heavily. The brim of her hat pulled down to try and hide it.
“Oh, why did I go and kiss him for?” her voice was so very soft, “Not like… not like he was that great of a kisser anyway.” She sighed softly.
No doubt everyone was wondering where she had been all day long. Not a soul knew where she went off to or where. After this she figured there would be questions.
Soon, she returned to headquarters where, it seemed, the party was still going. That gave her time to sneak off to her room to stow away her costume. The woman snuck about, not meeting the eyes of anyone important. Dropping things off into her room, she shut the door and moved to join the others their party.
Then her accursed luck attacked her and she saw the one person she wanted to avoid the most; Dust. He seemed to be humming merrily and her cheeks became more flushed than before.
“Ah, why hello Kia! What a nice costume you have!” he beamed cheerfully, causing her to flush up into a beat red, “You are blushing quite a bit tonight, have a good night then?”
“Why do you care?” she shot back, trying to walk past him and hide under her hat, “Just because you appear to have had a lovely night doesn’t mean all of ours were so magical.”
He laughed, “Ah then that must be a no. Well join the festivities, Kia! Perhaps that will cheer you up! I can show you what fun is about, ever bob for apples?” the angel’s hand touched upon her shoulder and she immediately froze up and became red down to the nape of her neck.
Gathering the nerve, she moved away from him and glared up at him. Although it was hardly anger that showed… it was something he never saw coming from her before as if she was… defeated, “Please, Dust, not tonight.”
Nodding calmly he smiled down to her apologetically, “Sorry to have upset you, Kia.” He fixed her hat quietly and wondered if perhaps she picked up on the reason for his good mood. Was she jealous? He couldn’t imagine her to be such.
“Don’t worry about it… you didn’t upset me.” She murmured, “My empathy just caught onto some unpleasant feelings earlier. Go have fun, Dust.” A forced smile was given as she still remained red and turned back towards her room, leaving him looking slightly concerned.
He was happy, she felt it off of him and anyone else would’ve felt elated if they caused it, but she nearly wanted to cry. ‘Melody’ did this, not her. ‘Melody’ made that smile. She kissed him, not her.
“Goodnight, Dust. Have fun.” Walking down the hallway, her eyes fell shut as he called back to her with the same wishes. As the angel went out of sight, Kia practically made a mad dash for her room.
Finally, she stepped in, tossing her had aside and flopped down onto her bed and curled up under the blankets and sighed, “Sweet dreams, Dust.”
